Hi All - My husband and I are new to this site.  Back in high school my dad was a plumber and was paid for a job with a 66 Mustang coup with a 65-6 cylinder.   I loved that car.  Ugly green dead paint but it ran and ran.  Drove it thru senior year and college.  It got totaled 2 weeks before my wedding in 1976.  I always swore I'd have another one. 

Got the opporunity one day while scanning the newspaper classifieds.  Was able to buy a 1966 red convertible project car that had a good body, but a cheap paint job.  Completely stripped interior.  However it did have a brand new crated 289 engine.   Sat in our "tent" garage for a few years then we sent it out to be restored.  Outta sight outta mind sorta thing.  But we finally got the call, had to hurry up & build a small garage and in October 07 we got it back!

Well after a long wait I finally have my baby.  It's candy apple red with red & white interior, white top.  Looks perfect as far as I concerned.  My husband did the interior.  Turned out really good for a first timer. 

Someone said recently said to me that mustangs were "chick cars".  Well that's just fine, cause this chick has her car.  I think he was just jealous.

 Do you have any photo of the interior? So we can see how good your husband worked

Thanks for the welcome.  Photo's of the interior are next on the list.  Seems like we're always in a hurry to get onto the road instead of photo's.   Will take some soon and post.

Well, if Mustangs are chick cars, then there are a lot of fully haired over males out there with chick cars.    I have always liked red and white together.  I had a 1957 red and white Plymouth convertible and that car was absolutely beautiful.
Glad you finally got back into a classic Mustang.  Keep it mechanically/cosmetically up to date at all times, and that car will be with you the rest of your life.  It is imperative that it shares a spot in the garage.

Oh you better believe it - it's the only car in the ONE car garage.  I told my husband we should have built a bigger garage when we had the chance.  LOL.

If you plan on driving it a lot, then all you have to do is change the oil and filter regularly, and service the coolant yearly along with a good grease job every time you change the oil.  However, if you plan to store it for more than a few months at a time, get back.  We have all kinds of information to offer you.

Congratulations on the restoration. I love that shade of red paint. Hopefully I'll see you out cruising this summer. Can't wait till my car is completed. Good luck and happy motoring.

South Jersey, huh?  I was stationed at Ft. Monmouth (Redbank) back in the 60's and enjoyed my excursions back into the horse raising country.  A nice state off of the seashore, but a very ugly state on the seashore.  I guess it's that way with every crowded state in the metropolis areas.

You ever been to the Redbank, Newark, boardwalk area of Jersey Jim?  Ugly as my 65 year old..... well anyway it is ugly.     The countryside is pretty with all the farms and horse country things though.

That is a very nice looking vert.  I'm not big on verts myself, but that one is very clean and tasteful.  Yeah, you always build a bigger when you get the chance.  We haven't even moved into our house yet and I'm already trying to figure out in which direction to expand it.

When I just took a road trip to Newark airport today it reminds me how nice it is to live down here in SOUTH Jersey.  We don't count anything north of Toms River.     Only kidding.    We're about 17 miles west of Atlantic City so close to the shore.  We still have a lot of "truck farms" in our area.

And the convertible was just a happen stance.  I think if it had been a coup we'd have still bought it.  We did have a 66 coup that had a vinyl top (was a real rust bucket).  But we sold it as we didn't have the money to work on both.  Husband is still kinda mad over that one.

I had an uncle that was stationed in McGuire (the family lived in NAS Lakehurst), my best friend lived in Netcong after being transfered there from California by AT&T, my former 'brother in law' lived in Atlantic City and I did some design work on some Army stuff that got installed at Ft. Monmouth. It's like this, California and New Jersey needed to decide which state got the polution and which state got the lawyers. New Jersey won.
When I go 'over the hill' to Santa Cruz from Silicon Valley, the summit on Cal. rt. 17 is higher than the highest point in New Jersey. Nuff said.

The wife and I lived above a Pizzaria in Red Bank when I was attending microwave electronic communication school at Monmouth back in the 60's, and we had enough roaches living with us to carry away the building.

I think you all would like South Jersey better.I dread going anywhere past Trenton.More back roads to cruise on down here. And you can't beat Jersey corn in summer.

There's this little back road run that many car clubs have done here in California. It's called the 'Thirty-three Run'. It starts in Ventura (Northwest of LA) and goes North about 400 miles to end up about 5 miles South of Tracy (East of San Francisco). If you head North on I-5 and go West on Cal 4, you get to Brentwood, where the best white corn in the world is grown, pretty much all year. I heard of a similar run in Texas but I can't remember the name. I remember that it goes thru San Antonio by the Alamo. Glen, got a name for this one?
