Hi. New guy from Indiana
« on: February 05, 2010, 08:56:25 PM »
I restored my 73 Grande' a few years ago.  Burnt out on car shows so now I just drive it.   Still don't know how many of these Grande's were made with the Q-code engine that year.  I have only seen 2 others in the Mid-west.  And help on this would be nice.  Not really worth the cost of a Marti report to me.

According to Mustang Monthly, only 548 Q code 1973 Grandes were made according to Marti.    That's quite a rare 351 C you have there.  Take a read.

A Cobra Jet was indeed a rare engine .  Take care of it and never sell it.

The Ford Mustang Grande was offered from 1969 through 1973.  This Mustang carried far different personality focusing more on a luxuriant ride than hot motion, the Grande could have any Mustang engine, starting with the 200- or 250-cid six, on up through any of half a dozen V-8s (all the way to the Cobra Jet).  In 1973 very few carried the Cobra Jet engine as luxury and power were seen as contrasting personalities and this body/engine combination was largly an "order only" production car.

Decorated by narrow two-tone stripes, racing mirrors, and wire-style wheel covers, Grandes had a manual three-speed or the optional SelectShift 3-speed automatic, with T-bar gearshift lever. Black and white vinyl roofs were available. Passengers reveled in knitted vinyl and hopsack cloth bucket seats, while vinyl-trimmed door panels wore teak-toned accent appliques. Wood-tone also highlighted the dashboard. More than twice the usual amount of insulation helped soak up noise and vibrations.

Of these Q-coded (351CJ) cars only 89 were built with 4-speed transmissions, again by special order.

Yeah i don't plan on it. Is yours a 4 speed? My 71 is, its rare, but not near as rare as yours is apparently.

With that rear end jacked up. it looks like a stink bug.  ;D  I suggest you get that car leveled out to where the rear is the same height as the front.

I like the meats (P275/60s) with the Detroit Lock-r - Hook'm up early and go to dinner !!

Here it is before the body transformation..  I changed it to Mercedes Bordeux Red.   Original color was ivy-glow green with avacado, 4-speed, and 9inch with 3.5 gears.  I have the full Marti report coming..  May be one of 89 if it was limited slip.
