Hello from United Kingdom - Mach 1 351
« on: November 28, 2010, 05:24:37 PM »
I am new to this forum.

I have a 1970 mustang mach 1 351.

Bought it from a guy local to me a month ago, he had it for 3 years, when he got it he took the engine and gearbox out and had them both professionally and completely rebuilt at the cost of thousands.

But he lost the plot and then did not know how it all went back together again.

So i bought the car off him with the engine and gearbox on a pallet and also two boxes full of bits , nuts, bolts, trim, carb in bits, distributor in bits and half the spark plug wires missing, ect.

4 weeks later

I now have the engine and gearbox back in the car and running, its got a new holley 600cfm carb, new electronic distributor, and new fireball coil. and it runs fantastic

The guy give be a picture of the engine before he removed it, he said it never run right so thats why he had it rebuilt, BUT for some reason in the picture the sparkplug wires where wired to all engines except 351. so i wired it the the picture and on start up it only run on 4 cylinders and then cut out.  so i then wired it to 351 as it says in the haynes manual and it runs perfect. LOL

it did have an original autolite carb and a 1973 dual contact breaker distributor which i thru away.

This saturday coming i am taking it for the UK MOT test so hopefully it will pass. I will also get a tune up while i am there.

I should have it on the road shortly after that. I cant wait . I know this will get much more attention than my 78 black trans am and thats a daily driver.

Wish me luck!

I spent three years in England. I went to the American High School at Lakenheath High at Lakenheath Air Base. My dad was stationed there from 1959-1962. I am also new here. Do you still have "teddy boy's" there?
I think that is what they were called as I remember. I spent some time in King's Lynn while there. Seen the Queen and went to a consert with some new guys you might remember when they were only getting started called (The Beatles) Now I wish I kept the ticked to get in. I just threw it in the trash.  ::)

Hi, Yes i know kings lynn, thats the east of england.  i am on the west of england at the north of wales.
We dont hear much of teddy boys or mods and rockers. i think that all finely died off in the 90s.
the Beatles is still popular in the UK although two of them is only alive. paul and ringo

The UK has gone really down hill since the 1960-70s . we had a 10 year recession in the 1990s and then it started again 2007
to now.  we had a new prime minister and new goverment this year and now the country is worse than ever, we are in a massive recession, and the new goverment are putting up TAX on everything and Cutting benifits for everyone. also we have just had the earliest snow in 18 years.
The goverment dont really believe in big cars or classic cars. They are trying to make everyone drive very small euro boxes, like toyota yaris, ect

We would do anything to move to America and get out of this Rip Off, Cold, Miserable dying country that is no longer Great

The only thing that keeps us going is Gas guzzling classic american cars. We like to do burn outs in them outside the "UK Green party save the planet" HQ Office

LOL

Yes, I remember the snow and fog. I tell you it is not a whole better here. So many people are laid off and can not find work. Just glad the wife and I are retired. I have always thought "Great" Britin was so beautiful. It will get better. By the way, the Mustang is a small car. It is not like the big 1958 Buick we had when we were in England. I remember a lot of the Brits wanted to ride in our "Big Buick". The gas was so much cheaper then. No one thought about cars doing damage to the planet. Just enjoy your Mustang. John
