351 GT in France
« on: September 26, 2010, 10:48:03 AM »
Hi everyone,

My name is Franck, I live in France. I am a Mustang owner, my car is a 1969 351 GT hardtop bought in 2003. This is an "Export Model" (DSO 90) built at Metuchen N.J then sent to Ford France during the sixties. I rebuilt this Mustang for five years and today, this is a real pleasure to drive this pony car !

Best regards  :)

Welcome. That's a rare combination for that year. Ford was pushing the Mach I and the Grande in 1969 and the GT option was low on the list. The 1969 body style was my second favorite (I had a 1969 Sportsroof, 351W 4V, 4SP, black - red interior). If you haven't done this yet or if the previous owners didn't either , consider adding a Monte Carlo bar and export brace to stiffen up the front end.

Welcome Franck.  I want to see a picture of that engine bay.  That is one beautiful classic Mustang, and you must be very proud of it.  Go ahead and brag on it, and tell us what all you have done to it.   And Jim, if it is an export model, he most likely already has the export brace.

Thank you friends for your reception,

Yes there is an export brace, but I never installed the monte carlo bar, because there isn't space with air cleaner. The 351 windsor engine is stock.

That's a beautiful engine bay.  You can get a curved Monte Carlo bar that will fit around that carb and cleaner.  Otherwise, don't worry about it.

Yeah, that's the one. I see that your air cleaner's "snorkle" would be in the way. I remember on some other post (another forum?) that this was brought up but I don't remember the solution. Even the performance styles of cross bars (Total Control for example) would require some type of alterations. The Monte Carlo bar itself was developed for Ford Falcons that were raced in Europe because of the number of and tight turns encountered there. We got mountains here but the roads that transverse them are in general, a bit less curved. In your case, leave it alone.
