Topic: 1971 "M" code coupe

Hey to all. New guy here.

Although I have restored many cars in my day, This is my first Mustang. I feel the car is fairly rare, but maybe not very desirable. What I have is as follows;

1971 Mustang coupe
Documented 1 owner car
All maint records since new (including orig purchase agreement)

1 option car

351C "M" code cleveland 4V
These cars all came with 3000rpm stall conv and 9" rear ends and C6 tranny (factory)
This particular car aslo has factory drum brakes at all corners.

My cars still has the orig 14" steel wheels and can be driven anywhere.....no rot anywhere, no modifications. It still has the orig stickers on the air cleaner stating "High Octane" fuel required.

I'm looking for some info about the "rarity" of the car.....would like to post some pic's as soon as I figure out how.

Any info would help as Mustangs are like foriegn cars to me.

  Welcome to the forum. As this is your first Mustang you might try the FAQ section for some insite into what you got, what we are all about and what's available. For some info specific to your car, try www.martiauto.com for a vehicle history report, reproduction window sticker and some other stastics. Kevin Marti bought the Ford Automobile assembly data base for cars 67 on up and can provide some data for a price (about $30 and up). As to rare, my records show 65,696 hardtops produced in 1971 out of 149,678 total Mustangs. It was not a good year for sales so there arn't many around. Figure that after 37 years on the road that half are gone and the remainder are probably not in the condition of yours. My personal advice, keep it stock, or at least make 'bolt-on' changes - starting with the air cleaner and a Pertronix ignition system. Oh, consider subscribing to Mustang Monthly magazine. They have a lot of good tips, articles and pictures. For pictures of you car, if you have them in a .jpg format in your computer, use the additional options to load them. Limit size to about 100k.

That unmolested Mach1 puts out right at 285 horses at the flywheel.  Not bad for a car built in 1971 for the street.  Like Jim said, I would keep her completely stock and drive the piss out of it.  Most of the parts on it can be replaced, so, don't worry about wearing it out.
