Ford Mustang brake problems?
« on: September 19, 2008, 05:21:40 AM »
I own a 95 mustang v6 and everything is great on it, but ever since i've had it, when i press the brakes hard, such as slowing to a stop on the 4-lane or goin 40mph or over then coming to a stop, it makes the front wheels shake bad and the steering wheel vibrates. It doesn't sqeak or squeal like it does when your brakes go bad, and the rotors don't have grooves in them or anything, they are good. What could it be?

That is usually an indication that the pads are worn out, or the rotor needs to be turned.  So, if those two things are good to go, you may have the ABS system going south on you.  The only way to be sure of it is to take it to a reputable brake shop.

You need new rotors. They are warped. You can check runout with a dial indicator to be sure. Check the tie rods, especially the inners. Also be sure the calipers are activating evenly. You can tell if the calipers are doing as they should if both inner and outer pads are wearing the same. If one caliper is sticking, that could be your trouble.

Like I said before, the ABS system needs to be checked by a reputable brake specialist.

Hi. I have owned a few cars that at some time gave me the probs you described. The last one i owned was a 2004 Ford Falcon. Low miles too but gave me that wheel wobble. It was under warranty at the time so took it to the dealers and they said that it was a common prob. All it needed was the discs (or rotors i think you call them) grinding. They don't have to be far out to cause issues. Also put new brake shoes on same time.
If this is your prob usually the quicker you are going the more wobble you get when you brake.
Hope this helps
