If you don't upgrade the suspension components you can get by, but will be putting extra weight on those 4 cylinder components.  If you are going to do it.....do it right.  Southern engineering is not allowed.

LMAO southern engineering...... thanks i needed a good laugh.

the 93 cobra r's used 4 banger springs but nothing else (had something to do with road racing and handleing).

i'm working on a rough draft of the write up now.

o a side note a 6 banger's k member is the same as a 4 or 8 cycl. the only one different is the 79-82 I6. the 79-82 I6 cars would require the k member to be swaped in order to drop a v8 in.

the only difference between a 4 cylinder suspension in a fox is the brakes, and the front springs. the springs are used for a cheap 1 inch drop. the brakes used on the 4 cylinder should be upgraded to something a little larger. either stock 5.0liter stuff or go for 5 lug lincoln mark 7 stuff

You sound like a shade tree mechanic Stephen.   The suspension on that 4 banger car is simply too weak for a V8, and the brakes will not stop that car safely because of the added weight. That weak transmission and rear end will leave that Mustang stranded on a road somewhere.  If you are going to do it, then do it right the first time.

the rear end (7.5) was used until the 1985 model year in v8 cars. 86+ got the stronger 8.8

the 4cylinder t5 will even last behind a stock v8,what kills the trannys is nto having a good shifter and slicks

the brakes iirc up until 1987 all 4 cylinder cars used the same brakes

so really the only thing that must be upgraded is the spring if you dont want the car lowered 1 inch :P

I think we are arguing about nothing, Steve.   He has an '88.  Ford dropped the 7.5 in the 1986 models, not 85.  But, at any rate, he has a decent 8.8 rearend in there, so just the tranny needs to be replaced along with the brakes.  That is not the same strong T5 you are thinking of.  http://www.moderndriveline.com/Technical_Bits/transmission_spec.htm

the t5 will last a lot of 5.0 guys run them as cheap replacements true the torque capacity isnt as high. any t5 will grenade.

if he has a 4cylinder car(even a 86-93) it still has a 7.5 rear axle, but it will definitely hold up to a stock v8

I have said it many times that those 80's and early 90's engines were weak assed crap, and I guess if Ford continued to use the 7.5 that just proves it.  The Bronco gave up the 7.5 in 86.

The more I keep reading about the 7.5 and the 8.8 the more I realize that both you and I are worng, unless this is a completely different 7.5 than Ford used in the mid 60's 6 bangers.    Check this out.

Question #3 - Does my V6 Mustang have a "Trak-Lok" rear end?
No. The 1994-2007 V6 Coupe is delivered with a 7.5" open (non-lock up) differential. The V8 Mustang GTs have an 8.8" Trak-Lok rear in the stock configuration.

Question #4 - How much power will my V6 Mustang Trak-Lok rear end handle?
According to most sources, the 7.5" Trak-Lok will safely handle up to 450Hp. The 8.8" Trak-Lok will handle even more.

Ok, then that 'splains it.  I kept thinking we were talking about the old 7.5.

Yeah, I know my Mach has the 8.8, but again, I thought the 7.5 was the old 7.5 used in the 60's 6 bangers.  I guess I need to do some more reading about the latest, huh?   ;D
