3rd valve
« on: July 27, 2009, 11:46:12 AM »
Just got a used 07 GT Coupe and I have a real silly question.  Can someone tell me if the 3rd valve is an intake or exhaust valve?

Thanks
Joe

Joe, on a 3 valve engine, you have one large intake valve and 2 smaller exhaust valves.

Thanks for your help.  I thought that might be the case, but wasn't sure....

I don't really see the advantage over the two valve system, but the engineers do, so I guess it's better.  I do know that the faster you get the exhaust gas out, the more efficient the engine runs, and if the two exhaust ports get the exhaust gases out faster, then it is better.  Mine is the Mach1 engine and it has two intake and two exhaust valves per piston.  I suppose you could take that theory further and have two intake and 3 exhaust.   ;D
