Topic: will lowering hurt??

All... my 05 gt convert. has been lowered 3". It has 275/35/zr20 tires on it. I'm concerned about the replacement cost of the tires and was wondering if going back to the stock 17" wheels and tires would affect the handling/scruffing of the car. Before i sell these wheels and tires, i want to know if going back to stock would so more harm than good. Thanks, Jeff

Stock is what the Ford engineers intended to be the optimum performance wheels and tires for that car.

Then un-lower it.  You can put the upper control arms back to their original position as well as changing the coil springs back to stock springs.

I have a feeling there's been more done to it than just coil springs. I'll ask a tire pro if it will make a difference. I priced 20" tires and i about fell over when i saw the price!!!

The 17" z rated tires on my 03 Mach 1 are around $200 each.  How much were those 20" tires?  If you don't have 17" rims, you are looking at around $800-$1000 for those too.  I don't see any physical reason why 17" wheels wouldn't fit if it has 20" wheels on it now and doesn't rub.  Send a picture of it with the 20" tires on it.  I bet it looks weird.

I agree with you that 17' should fit. It seems to me that the TOTAL diameter of wheel plus tire would be the same with 17's or 20's. Compared to a 20 in. with tires, the 17" tire would have a wider sidewall to compensate for the difference in the 20"wheel to be the same TOTAL diameter. This seems logical. I can get 17" wheels with h rated tires for about 900.00. The wheels and tires on the car now i can get probably 1500 or more for. I just need to take the step!!!!

I tried to load a pic and it said "an error has occured; there is already a filename on this site thatis in use, please rename the file and try again". I tried to rename it, but can't. I'll keep trying until i suceed!
