Topic: The First Mustang Sold To The General Public?

I got the info from a friend now living in Long Island who has a 64 Mustang convertible real close to this except his interior is red. I spent about six months finishing off the restoration when he lived out here in California. His wife is not allowed to drive the car.

That doesn't match the Stanley Tucker owner story, and the tops are different colors.  I wonder which one is the true story about #1?

 Like the seller says in the ad, the first Mustang produced (sold to Stanley Tucker) is now at that Henry Ford Museum with the serial number 100001.

 Now, who cares which one was the first sold to the general public? I don't see any proof of that in the ad and if the retail delivery is one day before the official first day of sale, it doesn't mean other Mustangs weren't sold before that date. I don't think they will get the asking price of $5,500,000 even if it's the first Mustang sold

The VIN is listed in the Mustang Production Guide and the claim is that the car is the first 'non-internal DSO' vehicle sold, which it may very well be, and that makes it the 'first ordered (or sent to) by a dealer and sold to the general public'.

 I still don't think it's a reason to ask a price like that. Giving extra value to the first Mustang produced OK, not the first one sold. Why not giving extra value to the first Mustang stolen or the first one back to a dealership for manufacturing defect

Tucker bought the first one to roll off the line.  Not necessarily the first one sold.  The VIN on the first one to roll off the line on March 9 of 64 was 5F08F100001.  The one Jim's link lists is #212.  Did Ford really produce 212 Mustangs on March 9th?  Was the car ordered before the 17th?  At any rate Tucker bought the first one to roll off the line and supposedly #212 was the first one sold, neither of which either would be worth that much.

 Shelby cars reached incredible prices but a regular 260c.i. Mustang is certainly not worth that much being the first one or not doesn't make a difference. I doubt they will sell it for this amount.

They are not interested in selling it, or the price would not be so much.  It's just a ploy to further advertise the roots of the Mustang to make the current Mustangs seem more valuable in the future.  Even the new Bullitt 08 Mustang will never be more than a stock line Mustang compared to the early ones, but the early ones are not worth nearly what they are advertising.  Hell, I would rather have an early Corvette at 99 percent off that price.  Can you imagine having a 1954 6 banger Corvette?

I agree 100%, I mean a car is only worth what people are willing to give for it. Can you see someone in my garage saying to me, "rich nice stang, yeah I gave a gazillion dollars for it and it was the first one off the line.....I think??"  HAHA!! 

A nice 2003 mustang cobra, yeah baby!!  If I had a vette, I would sell it get me a 2008 cobra!
