The Ford Mustang created the "pony car" class of American automobile — sports car-like sedans with long hoods and short rear decks.Ford and other third party companies offered their own modified versions of popular Mustang in order to cater to the performance-centric enthusiast who wants more power, sharper handling and better styling.For the "GT-350"the fastbacks were shipped from the San Jose, California assembly plant and fitted with a "Hi-Po" 302, 4-speed manual transmission, and included front disc brakes and heavy duty rear drum brakes. Additionally, shortened hoods and deleted rear seats with identifying trim were among the visual variations.

All Shelby GT-350 cars used a 289 High Performance engine rated at 271hp, not a 302 CID engine. At the Shelby facility in Southern California, the exhaust manifolds, intake manifold and carbuetor were a few of the items replaced. The engine was upgraded with a different manifold and carburetor for a new rating of 306hp. The 66 GT-350H with the automatic trannsmissions, retained the Ford intake manifold and carburetor. Most GT-350H cars retained the fold down seat.

Not sure what this rehashing of the history of the early mustang has to do with anything because it can not only be researched, it is offered here in this site in the FAQ in the classic section. Jim is one of members who actually owns one of these pieces of Mustang history in the early Shelby's.
