places to get good parts for the great price
« on: June 18, 2009, 02:03:29 PM »
I know soaring has that great get up on just about anything you would ever need for a mustang, but trying to get some ideas rolling on where I could get some good parts, like a full exhaust, gaskets, carpet and stuff like that. I am a ebay monster, but maybe someone has a hook up or might know of a company that even still honors a military discount, but I might have to go to the UK to get that.....................................STANG OUT

If you sign up with MustangsUnlimited.com you can get a discounted price.  You also get a shipping discount for spending over $300.  I just finished my '68 Mustang about a year ago and got parts mostly from National Parts Depot, Mustangs Unlimited and my local parts stores Advance Auto and Oreilly.

I think CJ Pony Parts has some of the best prices.  Mustangs Unlimited has great service.  I've also found I can do better locally - Missouri Mustang out of Joplin, MO http://www.missourimustang.com.  They have the same repro stuff, about the same prices (sometimes cheaper) and I can get it the next day in shipping with very little shipping costs (they are UPS 1 day zone).

The problem I've encountered recently is not the price or shipping, but if they have the item I'm after in stock!  The big catalog houses aren't keeping much inventory or us Mustang guys are buying it faster than they can stock it.  I don't think its the latter.  So, the first question I have for them when I order, isn't the price, but "do you have it in stock?"  I've had to go to 4 different supply houses for a radiator - NPD sold me a piece of crap that looked like it came from a 40 year old junker Mustang, sent it back. >:( Then, I finally got a nice one at Missouri Mustang.  They were the only house that had one.

Check out your small local guys, they may be a better source with cheaper shipping.  :D

Yeah, speaking of small businesses, I get most of my stuff from Texas Mustang out of Waco.  Not only do they have the parts I need, they answer the phone by calling me by my first name, and break their asses to please me.  To me, that kind of friendly service is worth a few more bucks for a part.
