New GT--Clutch Resistance

(1/1)

Tryanglz:
I bought a new '09 GT last week, with a five speed manual transmission.

I have driven manuals before, but they were VWs, Chevy Cavaliers, etc.

I'm finding the clutch pedal on this bad boy to be pretty stiff (i.e., hard to press in).  I can certainly do it, but it is much stiffer than the other cars I drove.  Is that typical? Can it be easily adjusted? Should it be adjusted?

Thanks.

I had a heavy duty clutch installed in my 03 Mach 1 a few years ago because the Tremec 3650 transmission was not engaging from 2nd to 3rd gear at any RPM's over 5K.  I also installed an aftermarket short throw shifter, and now it shifts just fine.  Ford had to pay for all that work, so apparently they learned over the years to include the heavy duty clutch in the factory package.  Trust me, you will get used to it and will be able to speed shift from 2nd to 3rd without a problem.

That's pretty normal if you have never driven a Mustang Before. Believe it or not these Clutch Pedals are even lighter then the 04 under Mach 1's and Cobra's which make similar power.

VW's and what not do have significantly less clutch pedal pressure, but they were not designed to hold as much Torque.

What your experiencing is normal :)

Have fun in your 09 GT, their a blast.

I agree, you have one hellava' lot of horsepower and torque placed on that clutch to move those rear wheels.  It is necessary to have that clutch be as strong as possible.  Think of it this way. You are getting a good workout for your left leg while driving to work.   ;D
