 Marco Nannini wins Italian Sailor of the year award, he currently racing the double handed Global Ocean Race (GOR) 2011/2012, has been crowned Italian Sailor of the year by "Il Giornale della Vela", the most established italian sailing magazine. The prestigious award was first established in 1991 and has recognised talent over the years including sailors such as Alessandra Sensini, Giovanni Soldini and Francesco Deangelis. Marco Nannini, now aged 33, had not competed in an offshore race until 2006 but has since quickly built a strong offshore sailing curriculum with a class victory in the 2009 OSTAR, a second overall in the Shetland Round Britain and Ireland race in 2010 with co-skipper Paul Peggs and a participation in the single-handed Route du Rhum 2010 followed by his entry in the Global Ocean Race.

hats off gentlemen, On Feb. 18th Marco Nannini on Financial Crisis have taken the head of the Global Ocean Race, the third leg, in Punta del Este via Cape Horn. They do this after over 2000 miles of grueling third leg, from unexpected storms and calms. Do so at the expense of the old boat, the lack of funds and the difficulties of this world crfazy tour .Il first place was in the air momentarily, for days the former leader of Cessna Citation was unable to stem the haemorrhage of burned miles of advantage in favor of Financial Crisis. Colman and Küttel are in an area with little wind, whilefurther south Marco Nannini and Hugo Ramón, relentless, sailing three knots faster by about 24 hours.[/color] [/size] The Italian boat was now about 30 miles ahead of arrival, while about 2300 are missing. to arrive to Punta del Este. Behind even the South Africans are flying Phesheya Racing, that after the storm hada delay of more than 1000 miles, down to about 700 in recent days.
Financial Crisis is by far the oldest boat and less powerful of this world tour, especially when compared with Cessna Citation,which was built especially for this race
