Help needed on a FUN project!
« on: November 05, 2008, 02:00:59 PM »
Hello, I am a 22 year old Army Paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne, currently stationed in Italy. I have been working on a project 68’ Mustang ever since I was 16, when I bought the car with my own money. Due to the fact that I live in Italy – and my good but not amazing automotive knowledge – it has remained a project for the past 3 years that I’ve been in the military. It’s probably 10 man-hours time from being a driver (which I intend it to be…) but I simply don’t have the know-how to get those last few things finished!

What I’m desperately searching for is someone who is willing to work with me to get the darn thing on the road this winter! I’ll be coming home from December 17th to January 4th. I need more of a mentor than a worker… someone who’s strong in electrical and engine tuning, my weaknesses. :P I’m definitely capable of doing the work if I know what I’m doing. Willing to pay for help, but I certainly don’t have $50-$70 an hour for a helper. If there’s someone out there who’s passionate about classic cars and / or the military and who’s willing to spend some time with me getting this beast on the road, I would be SO unbelievably grateful. Here are some details about the car:

1968 Mustang Coupe, originally 6cyl
Now has 429 CJ
SCJ Heads
Boss Crank
Suspension tweaked
Torque Thrust D Wheels, Yokohama tires
Body work done, some Shelby cues (side scoops, hood, lights, etc)
Freshly painted
9” Moser rear end
31 spline axles
3.50 Traction-loc
All-wheel disc brakes
Full 2 1/2” exhaust, h-pipe, Flowmaster 40’s
Custom long-tube headers

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you’re interested, e-mail is the best way to contact me: kalamazoo1080@hotmail.com. I’m in Beaverton, OR. Thanks again!

Sincerely,
Dan Cruz

Yeah, between Jim, ,me and Steve, we can help you get her together.  The problem is that neither of us can come to your shop to physically guide you.  You also have to remember that there are mechanics in the shop on base that can help you. Their advice is free.

Thanks so much for the support, guys... you rock. Unfortunately, I'm stationed in Vicenza Italy, so I only get to work on the car when I'm at home on leave. We have no major base in NW Oregon, so I'm SOL in that department. I appreciate your willingness to help though, and I'm sure I'll come to you guys with some quirky questions. :) Thanks again. Oh yeah, and rmodel65, your signature pic made my day.

You really ought to take Stephen's offer seriously. (Rmodel65)  Why don't you two guys get together in a PM.  Stephen is one of the most intelligent men I know when it comes to the classic Mustangs.
