Do you prefer 1969 or 1970 Mach1 and why?
« on: July 29, 2009, 06:08:45 AM »
If you were to choose between a 1969 or 1970 Mach1 which would you choose and why?

Personally I like the 1969 Mach1 for a few reasons.
* 1st year the Mach1 was produced
*like the front lights
*was the year I was born
*would sit nicely beside my 'new' 2003 Mach1; as 03 is the 1st year the Mach1 was brought back.

Just curious to your choice and why.

Thanks!

I also prefer the 69 over the 70 for body style reasons alone.  In addition, the engines started to become weak assed 8:1 compression ratio starting with the 70's because of the gas crunch back then.  I know what it was like having to sit in line at the gas station back then.  I also prefer the dash layout of the 69 and the back window as compared to the 70.

My favorite is also the 69 because of its design. I love the shark-like front fascia the 69 had and although the 70 looks almost the same, with the "eyes" in the "mouth", it wasn't the same. :D

I have to go with the 69 as well.  The dual headlights along with the nonfunctional rear quarter scoops gives it a more agressive look. Of course I'm biased as I have a 69 Mach 428CJ.

Care to share any pictures??
I'd be happy with an M-code 4 V but a S-Code or higher would be great!

Ever take that beast to the Woodward ave dream cruise??

Been a few years since I have been there myself

Never been to Woodward but then the car has only been on the road for a year.  I'm still working some of the bugs out of it.  It's been plaging me with all sorts of little mechanical problems.  But then I suppose that is to be expected when you rebuild a car.

I prefer the '69 MACH 1 over the '70 Mach 1, BUT, I prefer the '70 Boss 302 over the '69 302.
I think the '70 Boss 302 is one of the best looking cars ever, and is in my top 10 list.  But the '69 Mach 1 Mustang isn't on the list.  The '69 Mach 1 is somewhat a "pretty" car with all its fancy striping, chrome trim, etc. and I don't care for the big heavy rocker panel on the '70 Mach 1's at all.  Both are nice looking cars, but not may favorites.

I think the '70 Mustang was designed for the Boss 302 and Ford designers added the big heavy rocker panels on the '70 Mach 1 making it look "heavy".  The odd-shaped factory wheels (not Mag500's) also added to the "heavy" look.  The '69 Mach 1 is complete and refined in its striping, trim and other details.  Nothing too overdone.

My 2 cents.

I like the 70 more than the 69 because there was a lot less made and I will take the 351c over the 351w all day,If your not going big block. And the 70 351c 4v still had 11and 1/2 to one pistons stock, but i like the striping on the 69 better.

I prefer the 70 over the 69, i dont know why just always has been that way for some reason, i guess it just looks more aggressive.

I like the 70 better. Never liked the 69 4 round lights up front. Don't like the concave rear taillight panel on 69 either. LOVE the 70 mach and how it was done.

Always liked the 69 quarter scoop. There are some pre production Ford photos of the 70 mach 1 that have that scoop, as well as 429 in the tape stripe instead of 428!

[ Guests cannot view attachments ] I always was fond of the 69 style. Now If I had my choice It would have to be a 69 428scj GT like this. This one belongs to my mother. LOL She is in her sixties and drives it like she stole it. Shes still pretty darn good with a 4 speed ;)

Hi from Oz..I prefer `69 Mach. It has balls and looks mean standing still. The `70 isnt as aggressive looking but both are great looking muscle cars. Like their styling better than my `73 Mach...Don't see many over here (Newcastle, N.S.W. Australia)..Funny though when I bought mne it was for sale only 2 kilometres away! Meant to be!!!
