351 Cleveland
« on: May 26, 2006, 03:29:43 PM »
I used a search engine for "351 Cleveland" and it shot me to one of your forum's. I noticed a question on there about the cleveland not being manufactured prior to 1970. I have a 1968 California Special and according to all of the information I can pull together on it. It came factory with the 351 Cleveland that is in it. Can someone either confirm or deny that the info I've received is true?

now im looking at my  Mustang Recognition Guide for 1965-1973 and it says:
that in 1968 a total of 9 motors they were
200  6cylinder
289 4 - barrel
289 2 - barrel and only until mid year then it was replaced by the 302 2 - barrel
302 4 - barrel
302 HP
427 with 390 horsepower
in late november of 1967 they offered the 250 6 cylinder and in january you could get the 428 cobra jet

it also shows a 390 as a option

the first time it brings up the cleveland is in the 1970 sections and it reads:

A new 351 Cleveland 4 - barrel engine entered the Mustang line up in 1970, featuring canted valves (like the boss 302) and 300 horsepower, replacing the deleted 351 windsor 4 - barrel.

Hope that helps. Now I have found a few things the book isnt right on such as the mach 1 codes in the 69 and 70 it says a 5 in the vin means mach 1 and no 1969 car had the 5 in the right vin location they all had a 2.   So I think this book is 99.9% correct.

Hey Bro I am not sure about what year they started but I Know they stopped in 1974 but I would put money on it that GODFATHER knows what is going on. I know you can go to google and type in tom schmidt and you  can find a car decoder in there where you can type your Vin and it will tell you what and where that car came From. GOOD LUCK, and let us know what you found out. STANG OUT

I went to that site and I see something that I believe to be wrong on this site  http://www.vintage-mustang.com/topics/decode/decode.html

if you go to engine codes it says that a M code 69 is a cleveland only and the cleveland didnt come out until 70 and I have a M code and its a 351 windsor with only 46K on it.

I wish ford would put out the offical this is what they came out with list.   So who really knows.

I do like that site.
