wiring help please!!!!
« on: April 29, 2009, 11:24:31 AM »
when i pulled my motor out it started right up. when i replaced it with a better one and put the wiries back the way i thiught they went it wouldnt start. so a buddy came buy and wiried it up and he got it started. problemwas i didnt like the way he wiried it cuz it didnt match the diagrams i got from on line. for example he had a wire going from the positive of the coil to the fuze box. so when i was looking at his job i touch the coil and burnt the hell out of my hand and also with the modual. so i played with the wiring and now it wont start. it will crank and it even sounds like it starts but dies right away. fuel filter is new and pump is working and fuel is getting to the carb. and there is spark. heres my wiring white to S. red to pos on coil. I to firewall. ignition to S. also have a connection  from the batt terminal on the relay to ignition.  can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong.

If you  have an elect fuel pump the + side of it goes to one of the wires off the ign switch that when you turn the key on it comes on then. The + side of the coil goes to the points or if you have a solid state system it goes to the red wire. The - side of the coil goes to ground. The + side of the coil he had the wire to the fuse box heated the coil to burning hot as you found out. If the engine will turn over pull a plug after wiring it like above and see if you have fire. If the fuel pump is working and you have fire it should start. This is what I had to do with mine. Soaring is a good mechanic and try using his diagram also to make sure all is wired right.
