The first production of any mustang started in 1964.  I believe Lee Iacocca was part of the design.

The first year a mustang was built is 1962    an engineer from Ford of England Royston C. Lunn was assigned to create a car for the Watkins Glen appearance. And it was a Mid-engine design. But for regular production built cars it would be 1964

1962 and Lee was the designer, mostly of the later mustangs.  You guys and Google.

didn't use google, Iacocca was in charge as general manager of ford, but  was created by Lunn. Have that pic on computer from the book Mustang The Original Muscle Car, Page 7 and pages 15 through 25. And the car they were thinking about using was called the Cardinal ( which was configured for front wheel drive,after 36 million was spent todevelop the car it was scrapped and the falcon platform was used. Iacocca was the major factor in the Mustang  But the design of the 1962 Mustang was Royston C. Lunn

Shelby is a idiot, A rich Idiot but still an idiot. He only made one Ford COBRA, 1960-1967, They sold some in 68 but they were 67. Shelby sold the Cobra name to Ford, All his mustangs might have snakes on them but they are not Cobras. When Ford puts Cobra on the car and CBPKG on the window sticker, then  its a cobra. The new shelby mustangs are GT 500s not cobras.

the first mustang was unveiled april 17 1964 at I think the worlds fair.. so this day ia its birthday...
