What now

I took out my distrib to clean and paint my 289 engine and now the engine cranks but wont start, Im getting a spark! any help would be great Thanks Jeff

You haven't put the distributor back right. The timing is now wrong. You need to set your timing on your crankshaft and camshaft to top dead center and then make sure the distributor rotor is pointing at the number one cylinder and put the distributor in that way.

Okay heres what I have ran across. I have done the finger over the #1cly hole and when it blows back and forces my finger off, I'm at TDC correct? then I was told, slowly with a socket move the balancer to 0, my balancer had 2 rows of # which to I use? heres what is causing all the problems. When I think I'm at TDC the rotor wont go anywhere near the #1 cly and the mark on the distrbutor,the vac advance stops any rotation that far, so I moved the #1 wire to the correct position on the cap and put the Rotor/marks and wire at that aligning point. So I was at #1 TDC and 0 on the balancer and the rotor lined up with the #1 plug wire. The engine just cranks and does not turn over. Anybody in Indy can help ? LOL
