Hey guys and gals.... Just found this place... I have a couple of Mustangs.. namely 71 Mach 1... 68 coupe... 69 Mach 1??? 67 Cougar

My question of the day is.. how do you know if My 69 Mach 1 is really a Mach 1??? Or is it just a GT or maybe just a fastback... The vin # is 9T02M157578 but that just says its a fastback. The 05 didn't come out until 70 to designate a Mach 1...

The top line of the trim tag is 18 02A 63C
The middle line of the trim tag is 9T02M157578 F DK AQUA
The bottom line of the trim tag is GT DE TT CL RM MO HP

I have looked all over and can't find what any of these codes are for. Could any one give me a rundown as to what I have... or maybe tell me where to look for the code breakdown? I was sold a Mach 1 but have since questioned it. One guy has told me that the GT in the trim tag doesn't mean it's a GT but it had that option.. He said one of the other codes said it was a Mach 1 but wasn't sure which one.

I know the 71 is a true Mach 1.. at least the vin # and door code and fender tag all match and it has the 05 designation but the 69 is a little questionable.

I don't believe the "05" code came out until 1970 to designate the Mach 1... all the Mach 1s I have seen have the 02 in the vin... the "M" in the vin puts the 351 CID engine in it... and that's what it has.
My understanding is that the teltale is in the trim code someplace... again my understanding is that all GTs and Mach 1s came with the GT package so that doesn't really tell me if it is or not... but it's supposed to be in there somewhere...
I just thought all these Mustang guys could point me in the right direction.

The body code for a 1969 Mach 1 is: 63C
I don't understand the numbers you gave but you do have a 63C in the codes so chances are good you have a Mach1.
I attached a picture of a 1969 mustang data plate. Where you see 63A you should have 63C.

Thanks for the info..

The tag I am refering to is the tag that is out under the hood... I have been told it tells a lot about the car and the options installed... I don't have the door tag.. (bummer)  but I have all the others...

I have attatched a pic of it to show you what I am talking about...

I know there is a way to figure each of these codes to tell me more about the car... I just can't find where it is I have to look...

Thanks..

I am quite sure you have a Mach 1 but without a door tag it is hard to tell what all these numbers are for. The best way to tell is to ask the owner of a 1969 Mach 1 his door plate numbers and his trim numbers.
If you can compare them you should know what the door plate numbers would be decode them here:

Sorry I got in on this one late but yes he has a mach 1.   You will only find the 63C code on 3 years of cars and they are:
1968 Fast Back with standard interior with bench seats.
1969 Mach1 with the deluxe interior and bucket seats.
1970 Mach 1 with the deluxe interior and bucket seats.

as for you vin number
9T02M157578

here is how it works

9
this is the last digit  of the model year

T
This is the Assembly plant.  This car was built in
Metuchen N. J.

02
is the body serial (sales) code.  It tells us you do have a sportsroof

M
this is the engine Code.  Your car came out with the 351 -4V
351 windsor good motor my mach has the same one.

157578
this is the Consecutive Unit Number.  The number of cars made up till this point.

Hope this helps
