What do you think?
« on: September 01, 2010, 08:22:49 PM »
Since I need to change the transmission in my 68 coupe,  the question is AOD or C4. I have 1 of each in the garage. Give me your pros and cons. Thank you.

First question is "change" from what? If it's a swap, the C4 would be the easiest. An AOD requires a  modified drive shaft, modified rear mount, modified shifter, kickdown, speedometer cable (and gear), electrical and vacuum connections and the most important item - time. There are other items, bell housing, flex plate, starter etc. Can it be done? Sure.

Yeah Stephane, let us know what transmission you have in there right now.  It could be as simple as repairing the one you already have.

I have a C 4 in there right now, but I don't like the high revs on the highway, and I don't know if I want to give up my 350 rear end

I would convert it to the AOD if it were me. I'm a glutton for punishment though. Sticking with the C4 would be much easier. Unless your really good with a wrench thats the thing you should do. Paying someone to do all the work would get expensive so rich or good with a wrench do the AOD if not stick with whats in there.
