UPPER VENT WINDOW DIVISION BAR SEAL
« on: January 08, 2009, 04:50:58 PM »
Hi Guys,
All I want to do is replace the rubber vent window division bar seal. I DO NOT need to replace the V shaped seal at the front of the vent window.  Just the straight seal that is directly in front of the roll down window.  It's the straight seal with the 4 rivets.

Do I have to take out the whole vent window assembly to do this?  I am trying to not have to attempt do that if possible.

How do I take out the rivets?  It looks like they could be drilled out if I could get a small drill in there between the vent window and the seal but it doesn't look possible.
 Any tricks to this?

Please help.  This is holding up my interior restoration!

Thanks in advance.

Mitch

There is a special tool made just for this application.  I got mine from mustangs plus.  here is a link.  they show two tools.  I bought the expensive one but it made the job very easy.  http://www.mustangsplus.com/xcart/home.php?cat=2221
Take out the window to make the job easier.  Just take the inside door trim off and take the nut off the bolt at the bottom of the window, then slide it up and out.  When you go to put the new weatherstripping on, get a tube of 3M weatherstripping adhesive to attach it.  That way you don't have to use a rivet gun.

Thanks Soaring!  Can you be more specific on where the bolt is at the bottom of the window?  LOL..I'm kind of scared to start messing with those bolts as the windows are adjusted perfectly as they are.  I don't want to mess them up by removing the wrong bolt accidentally.  By the way you've given quite a bit of advice on other Mustang subjects and I appreciate it!

After you get your inside soft door trim/panel  off, just look inside the door all along the bar and to the front of the vent window and you will see the bolts that attach it.  The entire frame comes out, then you can take the vent window glass out.  Have your door main window in the down position.
