I'm preparing to paint the engine bay on my Dearborn built '65 conv..After steam cleaning,I've found that the firewall and right wheel well are painted body color, and the left wheel well is black. All of the restored cars I've seen are all black.does any one have an idea why my car has all of this Ivy Green paint in the engine bay? Thanks!

After 43 years and many owners, anything is possible. Depending on the level of restoration you're going to do, remove the old paint with a paint remover (I like Jasco), smooth out the metal with 120 to 240 grit sandpaper and paint the surface with semigloss or satin black paint.

Oops! One owner car,I forgot to mention my dad bought it new,no accidents or body repair, original paint(but not for long) Thanks for the info,I'm starting tomorrow. It appears that Ford had painted the body color on part of the underhood area, and then sprayed black over it.The Ivy Green is so good still that I just need to sand that part.

It is possible for the assembly line to have overshot the body color into the engine compartment over the primer and then cover it with the engine compartment black because that's the order of the paint sequences -  primer; body color; engine compartmemt.
