Transmission Question

(1/3) > >>

Jeff1967:
I have a 67' with a C4 and I have a leak coming from the shift shaft area of the transmission. Does anyone know if the seal can be replaced from the outside of the case with the transmission still in the vehicle?

Thanks
Jeff

You don't have to drop the trans. You remove the pan, then the valve body. After the valve body you remove the large retaining nut on the inside of the transmission that retains the manual lever. Once the lever is out of the case you can replace the seal.

The important thing is to reinstall the valve body with the proper torque on the bolts and to be sure the manual lever is positioned into the manual valve properly on reassembly.

Hey,

Thanks a lot for the information, I will give it a try.

Getting ready to start this project. Can anyone tell me where the seal is located once I get into the case? Is it on the shaft or pressed into the case? Once located is it difficult to remove and replace? Also are there a combination of O rings that need to be replaced to complete the job. Where can the parts be purchased?

Thanks in advance
Jeff
