Shoot us a picture of the solenoid and how it is hooked up.  This conversation and pictures has me very curious, because that solenoid on my '65 has been on there since I got the car 20 years ago.  As Jim said, it could have been from a farm tractor, so I want to know what I have.

I work at a parts store and that solenoid on your car Glen is a later model solinoid for a truck or something. Definately not for a old mustang. Also, I couldve just told you that those two wires hook to the battery side of the solenoid, it's common sense. lol

OK, thanks.  So, I must have an incorrect Solenoid, and maybe it's from a truck.  I guess the PO was a cheap bastard and used whatever was free that would work.  I need to get on the phone with Texas Mustang and order the correct one.  This has been an educational experience for me too.  Thanks to you experts out there.

After finishing my Pina Colada, grilling my rib eye steak (med rare), roasting the artichoke hearts (with Kalamata olives), sipping a glass or two of Cab (BV 2005), taking the pictures you wanted (Olympus E-300) and watching "Cannonball Run" (VHS on this one, Cb R II tomorrow) , I processed the pictures. The solenoid is not the original but the wiring is. The engine compartment is original, not stripped and repainted only cleaned. Oh, MCA Gold - twice, 2002 and 2007.

You need to take that Olympus E-300 back to the store and get one that you can focus.   ;D

After three Pina Coladas, I was lucky to find the garage.

So here is the next step in this lovely oddessy. I replaced the started relay and the system was working fine thanks to all the help I recieved here. But on the way home from work Monday I had to get a jump after stopping for snacks. So I figured when I got home I would test the battery, and alternator. The alternator tested fine, and the battery was a little weak according to the test. So I bought a nice new Internstate MTP-24 battery to replace the Optima. But i would still only get a single solid click when I tried to start it. So I checked the wires and found that he wire from the starter relay to the starter was pretty well trashed. It had missing insulation and bare wire showing. So I replaed that with a nice new 4gauge replacement wire. But still the solid sounding single click from the started ( I heard it when I was under the car). now I get to spend another $50 (after the returned core charge) on a starter for this beasty. hopefully that fixes it this time around.

Did you clean up the ground points? Just cleaning battery terminals is not enough. The ground from the battery to the block is one that is hard to get to but is the most neglected.

Also, if you have a manual transmission be sure to get a starter for an automatic.  Years ago someone screwed up and put the opposite numbers in the computer.  Ask me how I know. >:(

Definataly check the grounds, but if they are good, I'd be looking at that starter as well.

Its ALIVE!!!! I first tried cleaning the grounds and that didn't work so I used my "lifetime warranty" that I got when I bought the starter back in'99. So I got the replacement for free. I popped it in and she started right up!!!
