« on: April 20, 2009, 06:37:27 PM »
Hi all,
I have a stock 289 2 barrel engine in my 65 mustang. What type of spark plugs would you all suggest I should buy to put in. I have autolite spark plugs in the car now. I wasnt sure if they are the best possible plug to use. I Dont mined changing from orginal just dont want to modify my car.

Pull one of your autolite plugs and get the number off of it.  Buy 8 of those and replace the worn out ones with that number.

Has anyone ever done a honest comparison of all the spark plugs out there now?  I mean like there's copper, platinum, the originals, and I recently saw a "pulse plug" ad in a car magazine along with Two Guys Garage on speedTV did a test on this "E3" that said it gave 5 more HP.  I have seen mentioned on other sites that these older classic cars do better with the original plugs.  I replaced mine a couple years ago with platinum plugs, but am wondering if there might be a real performance difference and I should go back to the old standard ones.

I'm using the original autolites in my 65 coupe.  I have done enough research to understand that some of these newer hotter plugs can actually cause damage to the top of your piston.  There is no reason to try to increase the power in a complete stock 289.  You wouldn't notice the difference anyway.  That 289 pulls that stock light classic down the road as fast as the law allows.
