Replacing wire from coil to distributor
« on: October 01, 2009, 04:51:12 PM »
My son and I are attempting to restore a 66 mustang. While replacing a faulty coil, the lead from a wire that runs from the (-) terminal to the distributor broke off. I assume I need to replace this wire, but am not sure how to remove it from the distributor. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jim,
While working on my 67' last winter the same thing happened to me. Look at the attached image (sorry a little blurry) but the wire should be the same. The rubber grommet can be pushed back into the distributor housing and removed with the wire. I went to the local junk yard and found the exact gauge wire that included the 90 degree rubberized connector that clips onto the coil terminal. Then I took a razor blade and cut the rubber grommet off the original wire carefully so I could re-fit it in the proper position on the new wire. Then I took a knife blade and carefully removed the 1/2 moon wire connector on the other end of the wire and re-clamped it to the new wire, totally reproducing the old wire.

Hope this makes sense and works?

Jeff
