Hello, Will someone please send me exact measurements for the location of the left hand remote mirror adjustment on the inside door panel?
Also the exact location of the mirror base on the door?

If you take off the pressed wood left door panel, you will see a hole at the lower front of the door. That's where the control cables go thru to the control stick. There is no marking on the door panel, so you will need to make your own measurements and cut a hole in the panel. I put a couple of nut clips in the edge of the hole for the control stick even though Ford drilled into the in the metal part of the door. You may not like this part, the mirroer is further to the rear than the stock one so you will have an extra hole in the top of the door to contend with. I put in an interior screw with a plastic washer and some RTV to keep it dry until I paint the car. The location will have to wait cause I got to pick someone up and get them home.

The front edge of the mirror is 13 inches from the point on the door where the 'dip' on the top of the door meets the door skin going down. The rear screw hole is 17 1/4 from the same point as above. To confirm the position, roll down the window and hold the mirror in a position so you see 'about' where it goes. Put masking tape over the mounting area for marking purposes, to reduce scratching and to keep the drilled material from making to big of a mess. You will need three holes so - MEASURE TWICE, drill once.

Another way to measure is the front of the mirror is about 1 1/2" in front of the rear part of the frame for the vent window.

Thank you Jim and Soaring! Did anyone ever tell you guys that you are the most helpful on this board? I'm new here and have only posted 4 questions. Both you guys have answered me on all of them!

I'm getting ready to restore this interior and all the parts are lined up to go....

Jim, about the holes in the door, unfortunately the guy I bought this car from put a $5000 paint job on this car and $15 plastic Pep Boy mirrors on both sides of the car making two holes each on the body and both of them are in the wrong place!. I couldn't stand the cheapo mirrors and bought the repro ones. After installing them, I'm going to end up having one hole showing on front of the vent window on both sides. I'm going to ask an auto body guy if there is any way they can plug the hole and touch it up to not show.

There is a problem in finding a competent body shop. That takes some real serious local research.

I live about four miles from the former Ford San Jose (code 'R' on your VIN) assembly plant in Milpitas (now the Great Mall of the Bay). Your reference to 'happy cows' confirms you're in California. And I get my inflated head from sipping California grown grapes made into Cabernet Sauvignon or Zinafandel as I work on my Mustangs, unlike Glen, whos large head is a result of simply living in Texas.
For the interm, I would recomend a rubber washer as in a plumbing gasket, a screw and some RTV for the extra hole.

I saw that "happy Cows" advertisement even here in central Texas, and just laughed at it as being California advertising BS. However, I do enjoy some cheap California wines to give me a high. Carlo Rossi. But, I have to wash it down win a good beer.

Texas cows are severly beaten and abused. Therefore they are very unhappy - while being driven to market by certain people that use a Mustang. (How's that for a forum 'link'?) As to social comsumption of certain alcoholic beverages, my California grown and bottled inexpensive wine is far superior to what Texas Mustang mechanics consume (Hey - it is a 'link'.). We use that 'Texas' stuff to clean up - after changing oil in our classic Mustangs. (Another great 'link'.)

I've found in my travels that Californians' just sell there Multi-million doller condos and move to southern Oregon(where I'm from), and make $300,000 mansions. Don't even get me started on Texans! Big heads, loud mouths, and "God loves Texas" only describes half of the meat heads that live there.

California Wine? Pssh- try some amazing Northwestern Wine. Now that is some good stuff. Perfect climate, not full of California fires, smoke and soot.

None of you guys have the corner on good wines. Texas vineyards make some of the smoothest and best tasting wine in the world. I drove my 65 Mustang to a vineyard near my home a few days ago and tasted some of the smoothest reds I have ever tasted. (You notice I drive my Mustang to justify this message?) Oh wait....I am one of the moderators, so what am I worried about?

I have tasted some California wines that grab the back of your tongue and make you want to gag because they are so rough. I enjoy a smooth tasting red wine that doesn't do that. Now, to justify my palate understanding of what good wines are, I lived in Germany for several years, and played in the local band during the wine festivals on the Moselle and Rhein rivers and sucked down a bunch of their wines. I also traveled extensively throughout the French wine regions and sucked down a few gallons of their wines. California wines are good, but certainly not exceptional. Texas wines are good, but certainly not exceptional. The Europeans have it all over us.

Starting in the 70's, California wines have proved superior to 'European' (read French) wines in blind tests. Texas wine are the results of washing sox. I use one of my Mustangs, with the remote drivers side mirror, to pick up my wine at the winery (whew, keeping topic alive).

LOL...My topic of drivers side remote mirror location gets so much response! Of course most of it is about wine! That's ok. I'm actually brewing 5 gal of wine in the garage right next to my mustang. They keep each other company. By the time I get around to installing my mirror, the wine will be keeping ME company while I am installing it. I'd better measure those holes more than 3 times though before drilling!

Grew the Muscat grapes in my own backyard...not bad for a Southern Ca boy!

Grape vines would have taken up space for my Mustangs so I grow avocados. I installed the remote mirror on my 66 hardtop in the shade of those trees.

Sadly, I can't grow avacodoes or bananas because we freeze for a few months here in central Texas. I had to put up a hot house on my back porch to keep my basket plants alive during the winter. I replaced the heat sending unit for my '81 F-150 351 W engine yesterday, so I am sore from all the twisting my body went through.
