Yes it is and I love the way it feels, but right now I am getting an intermittent problem where the shifter locks up while the car is sitting.  My mechanic thought it was the shifter which was very sloppy and an old OEM Hurst so we switched it out to a new Hurst shifter and the problem came back.

Once it goes in gear it is fine.  There is a lever binding on the transmission that I need to jiggle to free it and I am hoping it is just a little rust from sitting up, but if not. . .  well then I'll do what it takes to get it right.

I should be upset at pulling the old shifter, but it was so sloppy it definitely needs a full rebuild anyway, and Hurst take 8+ weeks to do one, so at least I can send it off without the car being down.

I love the toploaders i wanted to put one in mine because i love driving a manual but i didnt want to spend all that money and it would be a lot of work. So i just stuck with a c6 and put a shift kit in it. Thats weird ive never heard of a problem like that.

I suspect the reverse shift fork in the transmission is binding up from being worn or having moved on the shaft, but I am hoping it is something I can get to without pulling the transmission.  I plan to overhaul the transmission and engine in the next year or two as I want indecent sinful horsepower, but for the meantime I am going to get the suspension sorted out and get all the minor things 100%.

yeah i hate pulling out tranny's. When i do though i usually just pull the engine too with the tranny still bolted to the engine so it comes out as one and goes back in as one. Makes it a lot easier and you spend less time under the car.

Exactly the way I would do it.  I have an engine hoist so I can do it when the time comes, but I'd like to put that off until . . . well for a nice long time!

Well let me get back on topic.  I went to the local Pull A Part cause I saw there was a 72 mustang in stock.  It was a sad thing to see though it turned out to be a 73 coupe with a 351 2v engine.  It was however an original AC car and though the AC unit was long gone the control was still in the dash center panel which was disconnected!  Also present was the upper vent that non AC cars don't have.  I grabbed the panel and bought it for a whopping $7.85.  I don't know if the controls will work, but for the price if all I get is the vent I'm ahead of the game.

The rest of the car looked rough and the majority of the parts had already been stripped. but overall the trip was worth while.  I even picked up a space saver spare for 15.00 (no not the original type, but one that will at least work in a pinch and fits in my tiny trunk.

you might want to look in an aftermarket conversion instead of the original stuff because the compressors are more efficent and ready to be used with r134a refrigerant

I intend to use a modern system, I just want to use the original interior controls so that if I wanted to ever convert it back, I haven't cut holes or otherwise butchered anything.
