Topic: rag joint upgrade

Has anyone replaced there rag joint with steering u-joints?I have my shaft taking apart and was wondering,about replacing it with u-joints and be done with it for good!!but I know nothing about the product.

Per the 72 Ford Car Parts manual, your Mustang may (the book covers 64 to 72) use this replacement coupling part D4DZ-3A525-A. It's a Fairlane part but is shown as a replacment for full size Fords, Mustangs and Pintos as well. The "rag" portion is not shown as a serviced item but is part of that sub-assembly. Availability "may" be at a Ford dealer or e-bay.

Yeah, I don't know why Ford didn't use joints with grease zerks.  Look into what Jim has suggested and see if it will not only work, but if they have zerks as well.  I wish I had it on my 65, but alas, I don't even have a rag joint.  Someday when my box goes south I'll have to pull the whole steering column, and that ain't an easy task.

I kinda like that my 66 doesnt have a rag joint. Nice and tight and never no slop.
