Question About Heater?
« on: October 22, 2008, 05:07:16 PM »
I have a 1973 Mustang. Why do they have dash vents but you cant put the heat through them. Its either goes to the top or the bottom. My car did had air conditioning once. It was a dealer install. All of the cars I have seen have the dash vents. Anyway to make the heat come out of them? Thanks for the help jemoore24

After so many years, those ducts coming from the heater box just crumble from age.  They are made basically out of paper. You will need to replace them with new ones you can get from just about every Mustang vendor.  You will need to take out your radio, glovebox, ashtray, radior speaker grill, and any other thing in the way to get to them, but I did mine on my 65 a few years ago and it can be done.  It's just a PIA, so plan on a full day to get it done, after you get the new ducts.

I have the heater hoses going to the vents. I was just wondering why the heat wont come out of them. On the heater panel it only states Defrost and heater which goes to the floor. Thanks jemoore24

On these old cars you only got heat from the floor.  And, you got defrost from the top.  The aircon came out of the vents on the dash.  That is just the way they were designed.
