Quarters spare change
« on: August 25, 2009, 09:18:36 PM »
Ok this has been driving me nuts at around 1500 rpm I hear what its like to be spare change jingling
I jacked up the car and looked I didn't see any loose bolts on the undercarrage it seems maybe the exhaust but all the clamps and hangers are tight.
any one else have spare change jingling on there 71/72/73 or any other year..

Thanks

Sounds almost like its something to do with your front steering pieces. Either maybe it needs to be aligned or, some or all of the bushing or bearings are bad/need greasing. Never heard of this before though, good luck.

Not sure what it is, but I had a car that did the same thing and it was the catalytic converter heat shield vibrating.  Clearly that can't be your problem, but if you have AC it could be the compressor clutch.  Check your fan if it has a clutch, or the bottom of the shroud if it isn't in the retaining clips.

I think know what your problem is now . . .

Your engine has probably backfired at some point and blown a piece of the muffler loose.

I blew the whole front end loose on mine Saturday and even after temporarily hammering it back together it sounds like shit.  Oh and like there are loose quarters bouncing around.
