Sounds like your pump is going out, email stanger53@gmail.com they rebuild pumps and are located in Texas. Tell them what you pump is doing/sounding like and they may have a solution or a quote to rebuild it.

yeah if its making noise that means its dangerously low on fluid and or its toast. Try adding some fluid if its not already full and see if it quiets down. If not then yeah it needs a rebuild or a replacement.

Hey 69Mach go fast,

If you are trying to keep the car original have the unit in the car rebuilt, the pulley and bracket are specific to your car. The company I sent you their e-address will blast and refurbish the pulley and bracket as well, at no charge. As soon as I am done driving my car this summer I am sending my pump to them, mine leaks.

i thought as long as you kept the options that came with the car originally that it was still "original"

I have no idea what shape his 69' Mach is in or what is left of the original car. A 1969 Mach 1 is a very collectible Mustang model. Depends how serious he is, there are many people who restore cars that entails keeping and refurbishing all the original components retaining the integrity of the car even down to sourcing non haligen head lights and a era correct battery.
I just made a recommendation in case he is under going a correct restoration of a very sought after car.

Unless you are showing it in concours class, nobody is going to know the difference whether it is the original pump or not.  I would go with which way was the cheapest.

I don't think that a new power steering pump would affect the value of the car, and plus i don't think that anyone would even know the difference.
