Oil cooler install?

Hello all!  First post on here...
I have a 72 Mach 1 w/ a 351C that I am doing some serious work to, including converting it over from a 2V to a 4V setup.  In the process, I have purchased an oil cooler setup (complete except for the mounting brackets for the actual radiator).  Well, my mechanic-buddy and I have been trying to install it and we cannot figure out how to get the oil cooler adaptor to fit in the space where the oil filter now goes.  The adaptor is part D1ZE-6881-AA and has two 90-degree pipes coming out the side where the hoses attache to the nipples.  The problem is that it appears that the adaptor (esp one the filter is attached to it) will either hit the chassis, power steering box, or something in that rather tight space.
Does anyone know how to install the adaptor and get it to fit correctly, if possible?  This is supposed the right part number, but is it perhaps the hose attachment pipes are incorrect?

    Thanks for the help!  I have looked at that site, and it does help somewhat, but they seem to deal more with 429 blocks and oil coolers, which are different.  the one thing added that did seem to help is that they "believe" that the 90-degree side pipes were not used in the Mustang application.
    If anyone has pics of their 351C with this adapter on it, I would be VERY appreciative if you could send me pics.  As many angles as possible would be great, esp from underneath if possible.  We just don't want to go and try to force the adapter in there and have it start rapping up against the chassis (or anything else) the first time I take it out for a ride.
    And I will be MORE than happy to post pics once the 'Stang is done.  It has been a process, and I can't wait to take her out and let her run!

I don't know how many dealers are going to know how to install a part from the early 70's.  About the only one in my area might be Tasca (I live in southern Mass) in Providence as they might have some specs from back them.  My buddy (the mechanic) owned a 68 GT in his younger days, so he is pretty knowledgable on these older 'Stangs, and even he is not sure how to get it in.  (He doesn't own the 68 anymore, and kicks himself every time he sees my 72 Mach 1 for selling his...)
