NZ Mustang so far.
« on: July 02, 2010, 07:31:27 PM »
Hi All.
Well as some of you know i am getting my Mustang complied to run on NZ roads. One of the first things i noticed when it arrive here was that it had a manifold leak. It was the gasket that had blown between the manifold (header) and cylinder head. I replaced that then took it for a run....problem solved. Then today was out on another test run after replacing some of the suspension bushes and...................That familiar noise was back........noooooo. I thought maybe i hadn't done the job right and it had blown again, turns out the other side had gone now. So guess what i am doing next..... :)
Jobs done so far.
Most susp bushes replaced
Top ball joints
Power steering hoses
Rear brake hose.
Radiator
Thermostat
oh and TWO exhaust to head gaskets

My next step is to get it to the testing station and put it through a WOF (warrant of fitness)
Fingers crossed not much else is needed.
Cheers...........muncher

Man, you are working your ass off to get that Muskrat going aren't you?   ;D
All your hard work will pay off in the near future though.  At some point in time you will be able to relax and enjoy driving that Mustang through the hillls of New Zealand without a worry in the world.,  (Take your tool box with you though.  ;D)

You could have bought a brand new car and avoided all those little problems, but you didn't. You did the same thing as a lot of us did, bought a classic car, are now in the midst of making it "sound" and getting it to conform to local laws. Why? Because you want to. We are on your side.

I hear what your saying. Part of the fun, for me, of owning a classic like these. Is working on them to keep them going and enjoying a cruise. No computer controlled this or that, just mechanics.
I have always liked Fords. I have had a few Capris mk1 mainly. The odd Escort and Fiesta too.
Hopefully will be on the road soon!!.......Muncher

Yeah, I really enjoy working on my '65.  No computers or any electrical hassles other than the obvious where I can use a multi-meter to find the problem.  I'll keep mine until I die, then give it to my son who will keep it running until he dies, then give it to his daughter who will keep it running until she dies.  What's the old Hank Williams Jr, Song?  "It's a Family Tradition."  ;D

Headlight and rear brake shoe adjustment is a piece of cake.  You'll have it on the road in a few days.
