Topic: Not getting a spark

I'm trying to get my 66 Mustang started, but I'm not getting a spark. The battery is new and the solenoid appears to be ok. I'm getting power to the coil with the key in the on position. I disconnected the coil wire from the distributor cap, exposed the metal housing and held it close to the engine block while we turned the engine over. I expected to see a spark jump from the wire to the block, but I didn't. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated.

If you have points, close it, then with the tip of a screwdriver open it and let it close by itself.  If you get a spark at the points, then your coil is OK.  If you do get a spark at the points, then replace and reset the points along with a new condenser.  If you don't get a spark at the points, then your coil is most likely shot.  Be sure to do all this with the key in the On position.
