Shelby motor ... Hmm where do I begin What Carrol Shelby did was to take a K code mustang 289 and turn it into a hot machine. By adding on a few updates like intake manifold, Tri-y headers, Holley carb etc
Ford used the 289 C5AE-6015-E block for a few years from 1965-1968 and is in alot of fords
The K codes did use the C5AE-6015-E but so did many other fords so the block itself isn't different from a c code car or a A code car. The K code block had bigger main caps with bigger bolts. The block that you have has that casting number but the K codes had different K code heads, dual point distributor, K code exhaust manifold, balancer, rods, rod caps, and pistons, and the crankshaft also had an extra counterweight on the front end of it, lots of little internal things intended to keep it from breaking.
So first look at your Vehicle manufacture number if the 5th figure is a k you could have a k code car. Then all K code had a solid lifter cam. They have a very distinctive sound.
Guess what I'm trying to say you can't tell if it is a Shelby (k code) motor just from the block number. The only way to tell for sure is by taking your motor apart and look at the main bearing (pulling the oil pan off) and the heads (pulling the valve cover off) or knowing the sound of the cam.
Hope this helps
