my 289 and it's misfire
« on: September 06, 2010, 08:47:56 AM »
I was wonder how I could test a mis fire on my 289. my idle is rough and the car isn't running as it should or sounding as it should. I have a timing light so I can just going to attach the light to each spark wire and see if it's putting a charge by watching the strobe on the gun. Let me know if there is a better way to test a mis-fire..

First of all, your timing light will only give you a reading from spark plug #1 which is the first plug on the passenger side of the engine next to the radiator.
A misfire could be a myriad of things.  Bad plugs, wires or a set of points that aren't adjusted properly.  It could also be fuel related such as moisture in the tank.  It sounds like you just need a general tune-up.
