Master cylinder question
« on: November 20, 2009, 08:59:36 PM »
so i replaced my master cylinder and now fluid comes out the top of the cap and runs down the sides. I replaced the gasket and still the same thing. None of the lines are leaking but i have to add fluid on a regular basis. Any ideas on why this is happening? I've bled the lines 3 times and still the same thing. Thanks in advance if you can give me any insight.

Do you still have the jelly jar single MC?  My guess is that you still have air in the line and need to keep bleeding it until all the air is out.

Nope it's a duel resivor one with a power booster. Disc in front drum in back. Front (smaller resivor) is for the drums and the back (bigger) is for the disc in front

i had something like that happen on a 1978 ford fairmount wagon, 1993 cobra r mastercylinder 1998 cobra front brakes and 1993 cobra r rear brakes. the front caliper was slowly leaking but i never noticed it because it only happened when it warmed up when i was driving and the fluid "flung out" the wheel, i had to keep adding fluid to the master cylinder every few days, i only found it when i took off my wheel and saw it looked oilly i thought wheel bearings, but it was my brakes.  hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses guys. I will try replacing the cap and if that doesn't work then i will move onto the bleeding of the lines AGAIN haha. I will also double check all of my lines and cylinders and calipers.
