Mach1 hood - hole!
«

Hello guys,
I was wondering about the hole that has in the hood of the mach1 1970 for the scoop. Mine has no ram air, just the scoop, but it has a f...king hole...i donīt know if the past owner did or if it came from factory (i doubt it).
I already saw others machīs with the same cut. Is it just to get some air to the top of the air cleaner?
But most of the models with scoops, there is no hole. Thereīs just the scoop on top of the hood.
What is correct? Both? Is is true that some models (not the cobrajets) came with the cut on the hole?
Thanks...

If im understanding you correctly its the hole for the shaker hood. This basically meant the "Ram air" piece that went through there shook independently from the hood. Check out cjponyparts.com they should have the pieces your looking for to fill in that "hole."

Thanks for all the answers....
Well, i wonīt get the shaker, because wonīt be original. My mach didnīt came with it. It only has the scoop on top. No ram air or functional.
I think the last owner did the cut just because he thought was nice....
Iīll probably buy another hood...
A mach without ram air should be like this photo.

Iīm trying to leave how it was when he borned, back in 1970, especially the outside looking, like color painting, mouldings, steering wheel, original interior color and original seats, dash details. The engine and trans are original.
But there a few things iīll have to change to improve performance: 1) wheels (not a big difference, just thinking about a magnum 500 16 ou 17 inches); 2) the engine: will be the original 351C 2v, but with a real good stuff on it; 3) suspension and steering.
Itīs a year project - hope iīll be driving in august of 2010.
Actually, i think is more beautiful a hood with only the fake scoop (because the grill, the turnlights, the design) than a functional shaker. But i know a functional shaker adds more value to the car.

Well hopefully someone will correct me if im wrong but i think if it is a mach 1 it would have come with the shaker originally. I think it looks pretty cool, but thats just my opinion, its up to you to decide.

The 1970 Mach1 came with a shaker hood. They still had the carburetor, so it was kind of a strange looking engine bay, but the hole was there in the hood. The earlier big block engines of the late 60's had the forced air induction systems. Also, notice the tach on the hood. These were truly factory Mustang hotrods. Also, notice how the positive cable from the battery is on the right side. The original was on the left and would spark on the fender when being removed. Smart guy.
