The mag 500's also look good.  I have a set for 'Ol  Yeller, but right now I have the original wheels and caps on her.  I'm getting ready to go to a show, and I am trying to stay out of the modified class.

Have you got long rear shackles on that ragtop? That might be part of the "too high" look?

I will correct my "ragtop" implication to "vinyl top", and it still looks like there's long shackles under there.

I can see maybe a white vinyl top, but not a rag top.

yeah, that is not vert. It's a vinyl top... probably teeming with rust under there.

With a good application of rust, a vinyl top will turn into a rag.

The picture shows the color a little darker than it really is.  The color is Vintage Maroon Metallic with a white vinyl top.  I wish it was a ragtop.  The color code is X which according to Ford was started in 1967.  Mine is a late 66 build that somehow got the 67 color from the factory.  It just goes to show that Ford used what they had on hand.  I am postive that it is the original color because I took the car all the way down and found that color in every nook and cranny.  I have found that many things that are supposed to be relative to a certain year can be found on models prior to or after that year.  Thanks for the compliment.  Yeah, the wheels kind of set it off.  This '66 does have the long shackles raising the rear a bit but that  was done by design.  The car I'm wanting to lower the rear is a '65 coupe that I am just starting over on.  I saved it from Katrina back in '05 and it has been sitting on the back burner while I finished the '66 in the picture.  Thanks for the notice and the kind words.  I really enjoy this forum.     Steve

No rust there.  I replaced the original vinyl top as part of the restoration and took the top all the way down to the metal, treated, primed, and painted it the body color before putting on the new vinyl top.  Steve

I've never really liked vinyl tops on classic Mustangs, and especially one of a different color than the body, but that's just me.  Have you done any mods to the '66?  As far as the '65 is concerned, most guys like myself have had to replace the old springs with new ones to keep the butt from sagging too low.  Just wait 10 years or so, and she will drop down, I guarantee.

'splain to me why you want to lower a 65 from its' original height.  I just don't see the advantage unless you want to do some serious cornering.
