is a fmx worth it
« on: July 05, 2009, 06:23:23 PM »
Okay I have a fmx for my 351C and it is the orignial for that car. I hate to get rid of it but haven't heard anything good about them so I am trying to see if anyone knows any tricks to make it tougher and maybe less of a wimp.

That FMX is one of the strongest automatic transmissions Ford ever built back then.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it bro. Spend your time on the body of that '73 and quit worrying about the mechanical parts of it.  That is the cheapest part.  Get that body rebuilt first.

mine had the fmx in it when i got it. it was fine for the first few weeks of driving it, but then i lost 3rd and reverse and i had also heard nothing but bad things about them so i decided to do the AOD conversion. but if yours is working then i dont see why you would need to change it out or do anything to it

Russ, if you do anything at all to that FMX, install a shift kit in it.  That will bring a smile to your face.  Read about it.

yeah if its not in the car so you have no way of testing it then i would suggest having it worked on or maybe just going with a c6 or aod or something. the FMX's are really rare now and parts are very very expensive and hard to find.

Tim, he had it in the car and it was working just fine.  He just wants to spend some of that Uncle Sam money that's burning a hole in his fatigues.   ;D

I think I am going to replace the guts and maybe a shift kit for it and repaint it and let it roll. I don't think I will have many problems with her. I hope the 355 help out but who knows.
