Ignition and handbrake light?
« on: April 15, 2008, 05:46:35 AM »
HI, On the 67 mustang 289, is there an ignition light when you turn the key? and is there a break light when you pull the handbrake up?
Thanks,
Mustang Chris UK

The only ignition light you will see is the alternator light that comes on when you first turn on the key.  Once the engine is started, that goes out.  I've never heard of a hand brake light.

There is an option called 'Safety Convenience Group' that has an indicator lamp for a parking brake switch. The option also includes a 'door open indicator', 'seat belt indicator' and a 'low fuel indicator'. Some of these light are activated when the ignition switch is first turned on but go out in run. The only idiot lights on a 1967 Mustang are the oil pressure and amps that are used when a factory tach is installed in the dash cluster. These options were continued into the 1968 model year.

If you have an amp guage in the instrument cluster you will not have an indicator light.

The internet is swamped with upgrades for these gauges, but very little information about the original factory equipment except for some statements that the original equipment gauges didn't tell you a whole lot about what was going on with your car while under way.  I use my ears, nose and eyes while driving my 65.  I absolutely do not trust the idiot lights.
