Horsepower

Ok guys I have a few questions and this will tell everyone that Im not a mechanic but just a driver.  first question

when it says brake Horsepower whats that mean.
lets say
290 @ 4200 rpm

and them Max torque
385 @ 3200 rpm

 Some of you dyno and numbers guys help me here
