How hard is it to swap a 289 V8 into a 1968 mustang with a 205 inline 6?  Will the transmission from the inline 6 fit the 289?

It can be done but it will be a big job. You will have to replace the front and rear suspensions, rear end, brakes, transmission, wiring harness etc...
If you do decide to do the job you will never get your investment back out of it.
Selling your 6 cyl Mustang to buy a V8 Mustang will save you lots of money.
You may want to read the article from Mustang monthly magazine explaining how to improve the performance of your inline 6.

The reason that i posted this question is because i was looking for a mustang and had found one at a good price but it had a 6cyl in it.  i decided not to buy it and continue looking until i found what i wanted.  just yesterday i purchased a '66 with a 289 and a 3 speed for $2000 which i think was a pretty good deal. The care runs and drives excellent but the body needs some tlc.  well i better go start sandin' 8-)
