Engine ID Number
« on: August 31, 2009, 06:55:59 PM »
I knew my 1971 Mach 1 didn't have the correct engine for the year but don't know for sure wether it's a 289 or a 302??

The ID behind the starter is C5AE-6015E.  WHat engine is this.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Well i dont remember how to read those numbers but im assuming unless someone isnt too bright its a 302, i highly doubt that it would be a 289 but ya never know.

Well, except that the 302's didn't come out until mid year 1968.  ;D

it is a 1965 289 block.  Plug the casting number into google and you will get an answer almost instantly
