can anyone tell me what these things are???

I researched sill plates, and found this. 

"In automobiles, the sill plate is located underneath the door and sometimes displays the make or model of the vehicle."

However, I just now looked under the door of my 65 and there is no such animal there.  My only guess is that they are talking about the data plate on the side of the driver's door.  But, that picture doesn't look anything like a data/VIN  plate.  I don't know what that is.  Maybe somebody with more knowledge than I can chime in with the correct answer. 
Sill plates usually refer to house construction, as in window sills.

Sill plates are under the doors and do have the make on them usually. They're main purposes are to hold down the edge of the carpet and cover up the metal rocker panel to make it more "attractive."

Those are a Ford dealer accessory that goes under the door sill plate and covers the door frame area under the door. They have about a 3/8 to 1/2 overhang exposed to the exterior when the door is closed. Most of the references say it was a Canadian Ford only option.

A Canadian Ford option, huh?  Maybe that is why it is so rare.  I really don't see the purpose of it.

I don't think it was a Canadian only option because my car has them and it was/is a California car, as does my other mustang.

There are quite a few differebces in Fords shipped to Canada. The air cleaners were different on some 390CID engines, and other Canadian government requirements. I looked up the p/n for the plates and they have a note "Canada Only". I had a set on a San Jose built 66 Fastback GT I sold to a guy in Australia but they were not a US delivered factory option.
