dual exhaust for 67 289
« on: January 23, 2012, 01:18:32 PM »
Hey first off I just joined, wanted to say hi and get that out of the way. My question is does anyone know how i would go about converting my single exhaust to dual and what all i would need to buy? I have never done this to a car before so any advice would be great. Thanks again.

The easiest would be just take it to a muffler shop. Price, I would guess it could be dual off for around $200- $250. The cheapest would be buying the parts and installing yourself. estimate price $150 to $400 depending on the mufflers and pipes you pick.

Here a link to some of the parts you would need.  http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/itemdy01.asp?T1=EK10+01&Category=Exhaust&subCategory=Exhaust+Systems&CatKey=EMUSTANG

Also some things you will have to think about, do you want original or custom, and what kind of sound you want your stang to have.

My advise is take it to a exhaust shop and have them bend, weld and hang the system correctly. I would also install stainless mufflers, I bought flow masters but there are plenty of other high quality mufflers to choose from. If your car is like mine parked most of the time stainless makes more sense. The reason I say this; if you start a car that has been parked for any period of time you best drive it for 10-20 miles to heat all of the moisture up and out, if not, when you turn the car off all the moisture from condensation will just sit in mainly the mufflers and rust them out. If your car is a daily driver then you can get away with a galvanized system.

You may also want to consider putting a good set of headers on while you're at it. May save some money if you do it the first time it's apart. . . .  8)

Joe,
Did you complete your restoration on the 66' ? If I recall, you intended to put it back to original.

Not yet. It should be done this summer. It will more modified than original but not in a radical way. The guy doing the major portion of the work, welding-painting- rubbing out-etc. is a 2 1/2 man shop and he broke his thumb on his right hand in a quad accident before Christmas and is just getting back into doing the fine work again.

Thanks for asking. I'll post a couple of pic's this weekend of where he's at. . . .  8)
