door glass installion on 66 coupe
« on: January 17, 2010, 07:46:42 PM »
Having trouble installing the door glass on my 66 coupe.  I have the quarter glass and the vent window installed.  When trying to install the door glass I get it started but then it gets stuck before I get it alway the way in and it will not budge up or down, like it is getting wedged in, then spend 2-3 hours wrestling the thing back out and start over.   I have the up and down stops removed but it is still to tight. I must be doing something wrong as I have had this trouble on my 65 coupe as well.  Any help at all would be great.  Thank you.  If I can help you just ask, this is the 2nd coupe I have restored in the past 2 years so I can do most things, but this is giving me fits.

been awhile since I did one on my fast back, but as I recall I had the same problem. My solution was to put the glass in the door first and then put the vent glass mech. in and bolt it in, then screw in the glass rail in the rear after sliding the glass in the vent guide. then the crank mech etc. after everything was in place I did the adjustments. sometimes it feels like you need 4 hands to do it, helper nearby works good

I strongly recomend you get a set of the Mustang Assembly Manuals for your car. There is a page with the window alignment procedures plus other stuff.

You were right on Brother.  Just followed your advice and it worked beautifully.  Thanks so much for the heads up.  This forum is great, just found it looking for info on replacing vinyl top, which went well also.
